Frequently Asked Questions & Support

How do I contact you, or make an enquiry?

You can contact me on 07904 794146 or 01752 778188, or email me at chrysalistherapeuticcounselling@mail.com, or by using the bookings page

If I am unable to take your call please leave your name, number and a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please note that my practice is closed at weekends (& bank holidays) and I am not able to respond to any messages until Monday or the next available day.

How much does it cost ?

I charge £50 for a 60-minute session, payable 24 hours before your session, this must currently be by BACS/online banking due to covid restrictions.

I require at least 24 hrs notice of cancellation, any less and I do charge the full fee for the missed session.

I review my fees annually in April. I do offer 5 concessionary rates throughout the year, please ask about this if finance is a barrier to you undertaking therapy.

Free 30 Minute Assessment Session

It is important that you feel comfortable with me and feel that I am the right therapist for you.

To do this, we will organise a free 30-minute initial assessment telephone or zoom call.

You can tell me about your situation and what brings you to counselling and we can discuss how I might be able to help you.

This gives you the opportunity to see if I feel like the right fit for you and if you will feel safe working with me, there might be some forms for you to fill in during this call, I will send them to you by email prior to the assessment.

Where do we meet ?

I run sessions face to face from my practice room in Derriford, Plymouth.

I also offer face to face sessions online on Zoom, and by telephone.

Is it confidential and private ?

No shared information is disclosed without your permission. What is said during our time together is kept confidential unless I am concerned that you or another is at risk of serious harm, this is in line with British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I will discuss other limitations with you at our initial assessment session. If I was concerned about the risk of serious harm, I would do my utmost to discuss the way forward with you before doing anything first.

I am registered with ICO (Information Commissioners Office) and adhere to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

After the Assessment session

The sessions after your assessment will be 60 minutes long, and at least on a weekly basis. It is important for you that you agree to; and attend regular appointments.

What is Integrative Counselling/Therapy ?

As an Integrative Counsellor/Therapist, I trained in a number of different therapeutic modalities and will combine these in a way that best suits my clients’ needs. I follow the thought process that each of my clients are unique and there is there’s no ‘one size fits all’. In therapy, what works for one client may not necessarily work for another. In my experience, seeing true progress in a client has required a period of working in different ways to find one that works.

I work in an Integrative/Holistic/Humanistic way which all together put you, my client first, which in turn allows you to become self-aware. This self-awareness will allow you to explore your strengths, goodness, potential, creativity, and your choices, ultimately working towards your personal growth-mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

How many sessions do I need ?

I offer long and short-term counselling and psychotherapy.

Short term counselling can be between 1 and 12 sessions, and long term psychotherapy is over 12 sessions or open ended. I will ask you during your first session your thoughts on this; but we can discuss this at any moment during our sessions. This may also include wanting 'top up' sessions for when we have ended, as new life events or issues can arise.

Is there access for a person with disabilities ?

The practice is not currently fully accessible, I am working on this and will update the site when access is in place.

Ending Therapy

Ending the therapy is ideally discussed, planned, and agreed. Should you decide to terminate the session before the planned ending it is important that we agree to meet together to have an ending session and say goodbye.
